Evan Williams Honey Reserve

, , ,

I was a bit skeptical when I saw Evan Williams Honey Reserve on the shelf. Then I saw the $15 price tag and the $10 rebate. It could be terrible but be well worth $5. Surprisingly, it is worth much more than that. If you’re expecting a standard whiskey, it’s not here. It’s lower proof and clearly has a honey flavor, as it is made with real honey. You can still clearly tast the bourbon, though mostly in the aftertaste. For a refreshing drink on the rocks or an interesting medicinal concoction it will make a welcome addition to the cabinet, to be brought out on occasion. If you can find it while the $10 rebate is still on, grab a couple. It’s well worth it.

Straight

Smooth doesn't begin to describe this. It is a lower proof alcohol, which helps this, but the honey kills any burn and makes it sweet and enjoyable. Even better with an ice cube or two.

Mixed

Your normal mixer doesn't really make sense with this. Diet Coke isn't a great option, but I think with a little experimenting you could find some great things to mix it with. Especially with some tea to ease a cold.

Price: $15.99 -$10 Rebate

Mix it with lemonaid on a hot day….that’s nice!

  2. Kathy says:

love honey and want to send in the rebate but not sure what you mean by the “black capsule” from the bottle, please advise, thanks, Kathy

  3. I’ve seen others asking about this, but I’m fairly certain that mine read, “black cap seal” meaning the ring under the cap once it’s opened.
Again, I’ve seen a few people on other sites asking about this, which makes me think they might have done a run of the rebates with a typo.
Sorry I can’t give you a definative answer, but I’m fairly certain this is what they mean.

  4. Dave says:

Man, c’mon, not the black capsule. God help us all.

  5. Uncle Jack says:

The “black capsule” is the black and yellow label around the neck of the bottle with the words “Honey Reserve” printed on it. From the Evan Williams website where they’re describing the bottle, “a black and yellow capsule closure.”

  6. Bob says:

I called the Heaven Hill distillery – (502) 348-3921. It is indeed a misprint — it’s supposed to say “black cap seal” — the plastic that goes around the cap and neck of the bottle.

I suggested that they put something on their website explaining the problem.

  7. Thanks for this information. Who would have thought to just call and ask?
