W. L. Weller – 7 Year

, , , ,

In for a night with the guys, this bourbon was a big hit. My friends that don’t drink whiskey often even gave their compliments to its smoothness. I have had several experiences with this brand before, and I have never been let down. This whiskey has a hint of something that was a first for me to notice, and I was thrilled about it. I am talking about honey, mixed with a caramel, and pepper flavor that is unique. I was curious about the honey flavor and did a little more research into it to find that wheat is part of the mash. I won’t forget to give the nice charred oak its due for adding great color and flavor. For its price, I would say that this is a steal, and that if you don’t try it you will be missing out greatly.

Straight

The smell isn't overwhelming like in many bourbons. It has a burn that is on the lower end of medium, and the finish really lets you have a taste of honey and oak that doesn't linger for too long. Very easy to drink and enjoy.

Mixed

The burn dissapears, and the flavor is masked a little by the Diet Coke I used to mix it with, but still very enjoyable. Very easy to drink and not overpowering for people that don't like whiskey for the burn.

Price: $16.99

Worthy: 8/10

Sounds like a great bourbon at a great price! I’ll have to look for it here in Chicago.

  4. Indeed. Weller is available just about everywhere. You shouldn’t have trouble finding it around Chicago.

    Enjoy.

  5. I could do with some Country Tavern right now. Closest we’ve found up here is Mudville 9. Great pulled pork sandwich, amazing wings and conveniently enough, they all so serve Weller.

I’m of the “don’t drink much whiskey” clan, and I am currently enjoying the hell out of this drink. A little diet coke as suggested and you get all of the intended effects without the burn.
